The Parish of Great Braxted
The Parish of Great Braxted is bordered in the NW by the River Blackwater and surrounded (in a clockwise direction) by the Parishes of Kelvedon, Tiptree, Little Totham, Great Totham and Little Braxted.
Historic records go back to the time of Edward the Confessor (1042) and we have church registers going back to 1558. The hamlet of Great Braxted was moved from the lands of Braxted Park when a 4-mile long wall enclosed the Park after the Napoleonic Wars. Whilst the village now lies about 1 to 1½ miles away, the church of All Saints is still located within the confines of Braxted Park and the Wall.
